"In 1995, after closing the cycle of ‘Running out of Time’, I started working on a new project, tentatively titled ‘The House of the Father’, which I even came to locate on the Costa Brava. But the film was, like many others, on the back burner because at that time neither the conditions nor the circumstances were ripe to address an issue of that nature: the intimate and deep wounds caused by violence reopened again in the mid and long term. I lacked perspective.
Now, twenty years later on, I have taken up the project again, because I think that the time has come and there are at least the minimum requirements to be able to peer into the abyss and try to reflect on the hatred, revenge, remorse or the madness that those years of violence gave rise to. We will probably need even more time before any talk of forgiving and forgetting can begin.
The action was originally to take place on the Costa Brava, I have now located it in Cabo de Gata, where I filmed ‘Bwana’, also in the 90s. This landscape, so beautiful and so harsh in its ruggedness, perfectly surrounds this brutally barren encounter between our two lead characters; Marina and Santi."

For many years now “Almería en Cortito” has been one of the most important sections of the festival, as it enables new generations of viewers to discover the magic of cinema through brilliant animation. These screenings will be hosted by different municipalities in the province that will leave the little ones fascinated by a short film, but broad-minded in both messages and content.
Thanks to the agreement with ‘Madrid en Corto’, this year we will be able to enjoy some of the best works of this kind carried out in our country. At the end of each session the laughter and the grateful eyes of these new viewers will be the best way to know that the effort was worth it.
This year, we will also have the cooperation of the “Obra Social La Caixa” (Social Foundation) for scheduling of the session to be screened in the capital, along with children’s face-painting workshop.

“Europeans in Almería” helps to remember legendary shootings that took place in our province at different times, giving value the richness of scenarios in a unique province with unique and varied natural sets.
It was logical that this year, which marks the fiftieth anniversary of “For a Few Dollars More” by Sergio Leone, an essential part of “Spaghetti Western”, we recovered this film with Clint Eastwood at his very best.
Besides this film, we will travel to different areas of the province with two very different Spanish proposals: Bwana by Imanol Uribe (1996) and Living is Easy with Eyes Closed by David Trueba (2013). In the first film the director of “Running Out of Time” approaches the issue of illegal immigration from a different viewpoint.
In “Living is Easy with Eyes Closed”, David Trueba makes a bittersweet portrait of the Spain of the sixties, taking as a starting point a real story that happened in Almeria, where John Lennon was shooting the film “How I Won the War” by Richard Lester.

Mabel Lozano, one of the most interesting filmmakers of our country in the documentary field focused on issues with a gender perspective, returns to investigate the world of trafficking in women and girls for sexual exploitation, denouncing, as she did in her debut; Voices, that this business generates more than 32,000 million dollars per year.
Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Paraguay and Spain are some of the places where this work takes us, into the heart of an underground world, devoid of any humanity that will leave no-one indifferent. In it, testimonies of the victims of trafficking, and individuals linked to this social problem are disclosed, making the source of the problem visible.

This film shows you how to set up a business worth 32 thousand million dollars a year step by step. A business where everything is profit, as the body of a woman, if she is young and takes care, can be sold many times a day, even against her will. This documentary is not unique because it mixes a fake documentary with an investigation through five countries, but because it places the viewpoint in the perverse eye of the big business which sexual slavery is.

Zoe is lying on an old mattress remembering better times. There was a time when he had had it all. But he lost it. As time goes by he begins to forget. In a world devoid of feelings it is harder and harder for him to remember the ones he had. He knows that they were not always positive, even so he craves them. For decades the National Institute of Cinema and Audio-visual Arts of Argentina has promoted audio-visual creation among young filmmakers of their country with different initiatives such as the ‘Short Film Night’, ‘25 looks (The short films of the bicentennial) ‘or’ Malvinas’ (The Falkland Islands).
Thanks to the agreement with the INCAA, we can see some of the best works of this nationality in several projections. They are very varied works, in which genres and approaches are blended to show very interesting film making which, in recent years, has been achieving international recognition. This comes at a time when further ties have become established in the field of co-production between the Spanish and Argentinian film industries.
